Our Story
Hey there! We are Michael (the woodworker) and Sara (the manager of all the things & furniture finisher), husband and wife team and owners of Huckleberry Ridge Furniture. We live in a small-town in the beautiful Hudson Valley, NY with our two happy kiddos and three doggies. By day, Michael is a police officer and Sara is a full-time stay-at-home mommy. When we aren’t working, caring for our kids or obsessing over old farmhouses, we are in the shop, aka garage, building furniture for our customers. I bet you’re wondering how we came to start our small business, here’s our story…
In 2009, we bought our first house and quickly realized we needed to do some (a lot of) shopping to fill it up and make it our own. We developed a taste for the finer things in life, but as newlyweds just starting out, Pottery Barn prices just weren’t in the cards for us, and naturally we ended up at IKEA. It was more affordable for us, but found that it was low quality, not very stylish, and not even real wood! Sara had been following a lot of DIY blogs back then and came across a blog dedicated to DIY furniture that offered free building plans. Michael thought this was a great idea, and we both set out on this crazy adventure building our first ever console table. This is where our passion for building furniture was born. We have added more and more custom pieces to our home throughout the years and in 2017, we decided to take the leap and start this small side business!
Since starting our business in June of 2017, we have built so many pieces of furniture and decor that we lost count, and we were even featured in Country Living Magazine for our Farmhouse X Desk design! Not only have we learned a great deal about building quality furniture from all the pieces we've made, we have also invested in professional woodworking tools, which in turn has increased the quality of our furniture by leaps and bounds. We are constantly learning and taking on new projects that challenge us and help us grow as woodworkers, as well as continually working on our brand to give our customers a great experience from start to finish.
We love that our handmade furniture is not only made with locally sourced wood that lasts, but it’s also able to be customized to your specific needs. From the size to the colors, it's all up to you! Our hope is that each of our handmade pieces creates a space in your home that brings you joy.
